cheerful flowers

They're actually really simple.

Floral wire. Buttons. Really fun and unique buttons of course--but still just buttons.

When I was younger I wanted to be an artist when I grew up--my mom provided me with a neverending supply of paper mache pigs, bracelet kits, sock puppet sewing patterns, and rolls upon rolls of scotch tape and paper. She says she just wanted to keep me busy. And I understand that.

I got the idea to make these flowers from a photo that my mother sent me of a picture from a magazine, I think. They were tall stems made with thick wire standing stoutly in a metal vase. She said, "you could make these!!" Mine turned out not so stout...not so tall...not so heavy-duty. Much smaller, a little more delicate, and in my opinion WAY cuter.

After a long time of neglecting my inner creative spark, these flowers were the first things I started crafting in my spare time between school, school, video games, and school. I think they're incredibly cheerful. They look cute wrapped around a package or in a vase like mine are next to my bathroom sink. Obviously they require no upkeep--they don't need water and they won't die (although some sunlight makes them look much prettier). I sell them in bunches of eight. I'm really proud of all of them.

Most of the stuff I make is the kind of thing that anyone could make if they had the time, materials, and desire. I don't have any special materials or tools, and I haven't been trained in any art or craft skill. This is just stuff I like to make. I think that's the coolest thing about this trendy new wave of crafting--anybody can do it and you don't have to be a trained artist to make something seriously cool and fun. For me, it's all about taking old/used/unwanted things and turning them into something I really love. Add a bow here, remove a ruffle there, salvage buttons for other projects like these flowers... and who doesn't love a little felt robot friend? More on that later... ! <3megan
